"The left" doesn't want to extend school days. "Some people on the left" do. I most certainly don't.

I'm not sure the school day length should be changed, but we should definitely end the two or three months off in a row that is summer vacation

I think the school day should be 9-5 just like the majority of the working world. There is no longer a need to be up at the crack of dawn now that the country is not based on farming and when the sun comes up.

There are a lot of studies that show that teens should be going to school from 10 to 6.

The human body clock changes in the teens. Its not something you can fix, its evolved in us over time.

At 8 in the morning the teen brain is dead to the world. Doesn't anyone ever remember being a teen? Can't sleep till midnight or one in the morning. Not half awake until 10, and you get more energy as the day goes on.

We should base school hours based on the natural human bodies clock, instead of forcing them into a box they weren't meant to fit

I know many adults who would prefer this schedule as well, so I think it would be beneficial for many teachers as well. For example, some of the coworkers at my workplace come in around 10 and leave around 7 because they can be more productive if they do that. I work part-time and usually get in around noon and leave around 4.

Another example is that I'm taking a class right now that goes from 6 PM to 8 PM. He chose that time because he said that students actually do better in his class when it's in the afternoon/evening.

Who said teachers are the problem?

You can't poss a question asking something that may not be true.

Why doesn't the OP start a thread, "why did you stop beating your mother?"

Well some people want to blame teachers for our educational woes, but there's no reason to believe that they are on the "Left" or that they are the same ones asking for a longer school day....
