We've been needing to talk to the Taliban for a long time.
We disagree with the way they treat women, children, other religions, etc. But the United States isn't supposed to tell other countries they must treat their people a certain way. We can encourage them to do the right thing, but using force is not a good idea.
Besides, much of the Taliban was part of the 80's resistance to the Soviets, and we dealt with them then.
Let Afghanistan govern itself, if they pose an immediate threat to the United States, then bomb them until the threat is gone.
10 year occupations will bankrupt us.
Osama Bin Laden may be dead, but he is winning the argument.
His argument was that by attacking the United States that we would invade, spend large sums of money we don't have, and then ruin our economy.
Don't help him win by supporting a long overdue exit from a war that didn't need to be fought for this long.
Good. Cut a deal with the Taliban. Make it clear if they are harboring terrorists or training camps they will be getting a visit from some predator drones.
There's no magic number. There's two magic states, Ohio and Florida. Republicans are wearing out their welcome there and practically giving Obama the electoral votes in 2012, which would easily clinch the election for him.

I'm afraid there is a magic numbder, no President has ever won re election with unemployment above 8.2% except FDR. Obama is no FDR.

I'm afraid there's not. What happened in the past doesn't mean the present is going to be the same. Also, when your opponents vote to end Medicare it gives you a lot of leverage.
How can the United States negotiate with a group of terrorists who are so fragmented?
