That is not the issue. The issue is Winter Soldiers if fabricated. Warfare is warfare and it is not clean and simple. There is a difference between an accident and an atrocity. The U.S. has not deliberately targeted civilians since 1945.
Atrocity to me would include throwing 'suspected' collaborators out of helicopters, raping and killing civillians, young and old, for no real reason whatsoever. These were not fabricated, they were documented accounts given by soldiers vebalizing the acts they committed, all the while believing that they were there doing the right thing for their country.
There was reason. You progressives set in motion a government that had to consume more resources than it took in to supply you with your endless freebies and "humanitarian" efforts.

The whole purpose of the WSI was to discredit the military effort in Vietnam by describing atrocities committed by individuals and implying that such was condoned by the U. S. government. That was a lie, of course. Yes, atrocities happen in any war. But the government, to my knowledge, has never condoned criminality in the prosecution of its wars by the military. I think the prosecution of those responsibile for the My Lai massacre and of the guards who perpetrated indecencies at Abu Graihb makes that perfectly clear. But the anti-American Left keeps recycling the lies.

Oh, I know that the video was banned for a time, and that every effort was made to discredit those soldiers. The fact is that every soldier on the credits that rolled by at the end of the video were substantiated. Those men had the courage to tell the truth, after being lied to by the government. They are not to blame, so much as the ass__les that brainwashed them that the Vietnamese were not human, and trained them to kill without mercy. I applaud those men for speaking the truth, not for what they did in Vietnam. There were some in Vietnam who took the extremely difficult task of stopping soldiers from committing the atrocities while the acts were being committed, like Hugh Thompson did, but they were very rare indeed.
