Such a law is totally unnecessary, and does nothing but add more legislation to a sponsors resume, as if a high quantity of laws is a worthy goal.

It is currently illegal to drive recklessly or while distracted. If a police officer sees you focused on your phone, he call pull you over and give you the ticket. What good comes of having a specific law against texting? What is currently legal that would be made illegal with such a law. Further, if a police officer gives me a ticket for "texting" and I can then demonstrate that I was not texting, but making notes on a memo on my phone, does the ticket have to be dismissed?

If you've ever heard him speak - his voice and mannerisms
are a cross between George Bush Jr. and Ronald Reagan -
it's really uncanny.

Boogyman. No, I just thought it was an interesting factoid.

That is a law here. It is illegal to text while driving. So what is the beef?
He has left it to the local communities to make the laws that specifically target their problems. He left it to the people to decide. Not some governmental King.

Pure BS. Every law enforcement agency in the State backed the bill as do the vast majority of voters here. If his reasoning is correct then why do we have seatbelt laws, auto insurance laws, and a law that requires a woman wanting an abortion to look at sonogram results before having the procedure. Yes sure, he does not want government interfering in our lives, that is unless it is something he wants controlled. This is also someone that wants to Force all 12 year old girls in Texas to be implanted with an experimental drug and was only stopped by his fellow Republicans. This is also a person that claims a surplus in budget when the opposite is true. This is someone that claims he has Billions in a rainy day fund when forgetting to mention that he has it only because he cut Billions in Education and healthcare to the elderly and poor. Back the SOB all you want the Dems will bring up that and much more in the process of outing him as the snake oil salesman that he truly is and putting an end to his ideas of being President once and for all.

Bush was a cheerleader at a sissy league school. Perry was a yell leader at an Army school.

What was the legislative purpose of the law? What is legal now that this law would have made illegal?
