Water pH is a very important thing for water ecosystems. For instance, it's greatly changes the carbonate cycle. At our current increased acidity levels, many corals are starting to die off, and if the rate of acidification continues, most corals will be extinct by the time I'm 80. My training is in chemistry, not biology, but from what I remember of biology coral reefs are very important in ocean ecology.
Coral reefs have been around for millions of years. They even were around and thriving when the CO2 was much, much higher than now. Stop the fear mongering.
