We could have dug a channel from Lake Michigan to Tucson, with shovels, for that kinda money.

By the standards for "war" set by lefties Hitler and Japan would own all of Europe and Asia now. Probably the US too. The only viable "war" in the eyes of them is when a tank is pointing its turret at their door and I'm sure even then negotiations should be in order first. Tyrants don't think that way.

Hey man, it's like the Republicans said, "It's better having our boys killing over there than over here."

If they tried that chit over here, there would be a lot more American casualties, and hard feelings.

Does the benefit to the recruitment efforts of terrorist organizations count?

It would look PRETTY BAD if we didn't have any enemies for all our efforts, man.

Several private security contractors have profited greatly, and the Phelps family has a never-ending source of funerals to wave their signs at.

This post has what do with Iraq and Afghanistan?

One benefit is that a message has been sent to the world that we will do what it takes to bring transgressors to justice or send them to the nether regions. And that we have the means to do it.

One detriment is that we don't have the same resolve to rebuild nations after we careen around in them.

Everything. If it's above your head sorry. Maybe you need to go to Harvard like Obammer.

Also, that in bringing "transgressors" to justice, we kill many civilians and create more "transgressors," which, assuming that our message is indicative of our doctrine, will force the bringing of more justice in the future, until we can no longer afford to wage war against the rapidly multiplying "transgressors" born in the rubble of our drone strikes.

It is tragic that so many are killed. However, we must respond when thousands are killed on our soil and a foreign government is more than willing to harbor the devil that did it.

Iraq was a waste and it is a very sorry legacy of the Bush Administration. It was unnecessary. However, Afghanistan was a necessary war in my opinion. Another unfortunate thing is that Iraq took focus away from Afghanistan which is the reason that war has lasted almost 10 years. If it wasn't for Sadam, would the Bush Administration have gotten Osama? I think so.
