"190,000 jobs by 2013 if offshore drilling returns to pre-spill levels. 400,000 jobs could be supported across the United States with a GDP increase of $45 billion by 2013 if permits for exploration and drilling returned to historic levels, and if backlogged requests were granted according to an industry study. “We’ve got to get out there and have the opportunity to look,” Gerard (American Petroleum Institute) said, “and the industry needs some insurance that this is serious — that there’s a leasing process in place to eventually commit the resources to go find what level of resources are available, and then to develop it at that point."

How many jobs were lost with the BP spill? What was the cost? Never mind, that even 400K wouldn't make a dent when nearly 22 times that were lost in the recession, starting Jan 2008. This country needs over 8 million jobs, and that drilling irresponsibly is not the way out of it.

This is a better idea and will revitalize a technological revolution with countless jobs instead of more environmental destruction and a dead-end.

Not likely to happen under this administration. Obama is dead set on destroying the American economy, one industry at a time. This is particularly true with those that don't fit his dream of a green, pc america. Who needs jobs, when you have faith in your own infalibility?

another field that would help create jobs is the expansion of our off shore fishing industry. Too bad that is being fought by our good conservationist friends as well.

190,000 jobs vs how many jobs lost due to destruction of waters like the Gulf of Mexico?
