In Norway, "where most police officers do not carry guns" <<< from a yahoo news story today.
This brings back memeories of the OKC bombing.
My heart goes out to Norway and its citizens.
Truly I think the attack upon the youth camp victims on the island more resembles the shootings in Bezlan where children were specifically targeted for execution. The daycare at the Murrah Federal building was not the primary target, the government building was, as was the bombing of the government building in Oslo.
I doubt there was government agency knowledge beforehand in Norway as there was at OKC. Though, not knowing the political environment I am hoping for the best than suspecting the worst.
Thoughts and prayer continue for the families and friends of those in Norway so personally affected by this tragedy.
The point being - after the huge car bomb, after the slaughter on the island, after the claim of responsibility by a muslim group, after AQ suggested their followers just take a gun and start shooting, after the government cracking down on a muslim extremist leader, after the threats that were made by that group........it WAS perfectly justified to assume the attacks were carried out by muslim extremists.
Sorry if you just can't see that.

Perhaps we all need to examine our assumptions more critically going forward.
