S. Korea enacts 'chemical castration' law for pedophiles - World news - Asia-Pacific - msnbc.com

"South Korea has enacted a law allowing the use of 'chemical castration' on convicted pedophiles, the Justice Ministry said on Sunday, becoming the first Asian country to permit the punishment.

The legislation has generated strong protests from human rights bodies."

Who could be objecting to this on the grounds of "human rights"? Is someone making the case that such sub-human criminals should continue to have full functionality of their genitals? I don't get it...?

I support this law, and wish for something similar to be enacted here in the United States.

What is wrong with these people? Pedophiles should not have any rights at all once they decided to sexually defile young children. What about the rights of the children? Seems these people care more about the rights of perpetrators.

Agreed. I support harsh laws for violent criminals.

I don't believe in punishment for the sake of punishment for criminals. I believe it should only be used as a deterrent. That is the way the American penal system was first devised.

Studies have shown that pedophiles are incurable; therefore, I believe Pedophiles should never get out of prison. If there is some scientific proof that castration will some how cure them, then they should be allowed the option of castration or life in prison. If it can't cure them, then no to castration and life in prison.

It is used in some states:

Chemical castration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is not always effective, however. USATODAY.com - Castration often fails to halt offenders

All it does it lower their sex drive (not eliminate the perversion, in the case of pedophilia), and the article above points out that rape and molestation are not even about sex to begin with, at least in the majority of cases.

I don't think it's cruel and unusual, as the ACLU would have you believe. I actually don't think it goes far enough.

The rights of the accused and the rights of the victim are separate issues but equally important and equivalent in the eyes of the law and are guaranteed by the US Constitution.
