I know that some people are all in favor of what Perry is doing--so this link might run contra to their mindsets

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's misguided day of prayer - latimes.com

but I don't respect any politician who implies a special relationship with God or who uses that implied connection to market himself to the public

Perry is doing this with direct intention to gain notice of conservative voters across the US and generate sponsorship for a presidential campaign--

this article points out this prayer day is more about exclusion than inclusion and thwarts the intention of the Constitution to separate religion and government...
but as I said I know many people won't agreee with its pov--any more than I agree with Perry--

Politicians like Perry remind me of that BS preacher in the George Burns movie Oh, God! :
"Gaaaawwwd wants me to tell you..."

As I recall, George Burns' God pointed out that he never talked to him to pass on anything, that he would talk to people directly. People who use God to make money or for politics (same thing) aren't really all that tight with Him.

Rick Perry is doing what all politicians do - pandering to a special interest group.

all politicians are not as sleezy as Rick Perry who has turned his coat and his politics to suit whichever way the winds have blown since he entered politics originally as a "progressive" Democrat...was Al Gore's TX campaign chairman...

some people including him have a short memory

However, the Governor of the State of Texas HAS lost sight of the Constitution of the United States and the fact that from the very moment he first took office of any kind, he was bound to uphold it, including separation of church and state (a term first used, I believe, by Thomas Jefferson, so it's not like it's a new idea). Not that that's any great surprise; after all, "Rick Perry" doesn't appear anywhere in that document, and that's the important thing.

The man is an embarrassment. To the state, and to Christians.

All a dog-and-pony show for the benefit of his presidential aspirations. Tsk, tsk! I'll be praying that he will be out of politics entirely soon!
