At least 1,019 U.S. troops have died in and around Afghanistan since President Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009, according to CNSNews.com’s count, which runs through July 31, 2011.
Those 1,019 deaths represent about 64 percent of the total 1,588 deaths that have occurred since Oct. 7, 2001, when U.S. forces began fighting in Afghanistan to oust the Taliban regime that was harboring al Qaeda. At least 32 U.S. soldiers died in Afghanistan last month.
So far this year, from January through the end of July, there have been at least 230 U.S. military deaths, 35 fewer then the tally from the same period last year.
The 497 American soldiers who died in Afghanistan in 2010 make that year the deadliest since the war started in October 2001.
tyhat because during the troop surge in Iraq the US withdrew combat troops and handed over control of the NATO ISAF mission to Canada in 06-09 and the british and Canadian forces took the most losses behind the U.S. over any other country.
trust me Canada and CF forces know what a Khandhar patrol is like and sorry to hear about you losses. to all US, Canadian
British, aussie men and women who served and to the ones that served and are serving... thank you
The clans/tribes in Astan have been killing one another and outside invaders for millennia. The sooner the nut jobs in DC figure that one out and withdraw all our troops, the better it will be for our troops.

I have nothing but great respect to the British, Canadian, and American troops who are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am greatly honored to have the United Kingdom and Canada as our country's allies. Rest in Peace to all soldiers of these great nations and the rest of the coalition forces who fought valiantly and honorably for their country, and for each other

guys, I am anything but an Obama supporter as most know and I too, think it is time to either get out of 1/2 the places we have military or certainly scale down, but I think saying he is a War Monger or on the otherhand, saying his mentors and idols are communist is carrying things a little too far.
No. The Iraq war is a war of choice, it was fabricated. The Afgan war is what Bush should have pursued and Obama is doing what needs to be done. Democrats are not a peace party any more than Repubiicans are a party of war - you have hawks and doves in both.

agreed....we will be out of Iraq in 150 days and then "mission accomplished" will really take place....Afghanistan is a vast wasteland...no telling how longer we will be in that rat trap, but hopefully we will start drawing down our troops before July 2012, and get all the way out before July 2014
