It's not the job of employees at health centers to solve the problems others such as immigration authorities or police have created. No doctor or nurse should be put in the position to have to send anyone away because of money, that contradicts the philosophy behind the profession, which simply is to help those who need help.

Actually it's probably to help keep them open because they don't turn people away even if they can't pay. Sooner or later the bills have to be paid though and if they get more not paying then paying they will end up broke and closed.
It's happening to small hospitals/clinics all over. This money will at least help keep them open.

Nonsense. It is quite easy to ascertain whether someone is legal or not. The trick is you actually have to ask for identfication- something that a German should understand.
Emergency rooms don't ask for citizenship status. This is a good idea by HHS now, just as it was when announced a year ago. But do carry on ranting, it continues to amuse.

Papieren, Ausweis! Sofort!
That's the point, they should not even have to ask in a health center. It is other people's job to keep illegal immigrants from living in the US in the first place.
It's a health center, not a border post.

You are using way too much sense and applying too much logic, for this Forum.

Then why do doctors have to report gun shots? Dog bites? Child abuse?
They don't have a problem checking for proof of insurance. I have to show ID, an insurance card, fill out a form.
They hire staff for that. Just like they hire staff to deal with insurance.
So you're OK with illegals getting our tax dollars?
So you're OK with the fact that the president lied?
The illegals will get the medical care regardless so that's a moot point.
The problem is, and it's happening in Texas, that these care facilities cannot pay their bills if they get no money and end up closing.
If the government doesn't give them money to cover illegal medical care they will end up closing for lack of funds to pay their bills.
Want to see closures ?
With current laws you don't have much of a choice.
Situations like this are happening..mostly in border states, but something has to be done to get them money.
(dated 2009) Illegal immigrants burden UMC - News - ReviewJournal.com
"Since April, UMC has been spending about $2 million per month providing emergency dialysis services to 80 illegal immigrants, Brannman said.
..
"When we're projecting a budget deficit of $70 million for fiscal year 2010, you can see that $24 million in dialysis treatment that's not reimbursed is an awfully big chunk," Brannman said."
