Is America so great because so many of its people are in prison or
is America not so great, because so many of its people are in prison?
And it got me to thinking.....
Would America be even greater if more or less people were in prison?
Quick... what's any reason you can think of where having your nation's people incarcerated should be a profitable capitalist venture. Not "could be" ... "Should be." CCA announces $42.4M profit - Nashville Business Journal

You know, I'm not a world traveler by a long shot, but I've been to a few countries, here and there. They're not on fire...well, If you don't count Iraq, and they don't have as many people in jail as we do. I think it's weird that America has so many criminals. It's like we're the Land of Evil People.
nah, we're the land of southern baptist drug laws.
The United States has the highest incarceration rate on the planet - five times the world's average. A total of 2,380,000 people are now in prison. The U.S. has five percent of the world's population, but 25 percent of the world's prison population. .
Demographics and too many laws.
Just to put it in perspective; 4749 out of 100,000 US black males are incarcerated and 1822 US Hispanic males.
Actually America sucks. The thing is that everywhere else sucks more. Gravity is a myth, the planet just sucks.
I suppose it depends on your likes and dislikes. I personally think prisons are a waste of time since bullets are cheaper. On the other hand, places like China tend to share that view as well. Chinese cities are generally a lot safer than American. No, it's not because Chinese are the mythical model minority. It's because jail in China is an entirely different experience than jail in the US and executions aren't newsworthy.
We do tend to imprison people for what I consider asinine reasons and let violent criminals loose to make room for pot smokers and poor bastards who made the mistake of killing a burglar. I suspect our crime rates and prison population would decline quickly if we simply legalized pot and self defense.
Southern Baptists haven't stopped Obama from proposing legalization of drugs.
no, that'd probably be the AME church.
