Gee, I wish I could watch the facial reactions of CERTAIN MEMBERS here on C-D when they read this article!

18 Reasons to Thank a Liberal: A Partial List of Liberal Achievements; 1935-2010 | Addicting Info (http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/08/26/18-reasons-to-thank-a-liberal-a-partial-list-of-liberal-achievements-1935-2010/ - broken link)

Here's just eight of the historical reasons:

1. The 8-hour workday, overtime pay, and the federal minimum wage (Fair Labor Standards Act, 1938)

2. The G.I. Bill of Rights, first enacted in 1944 under FDR

3. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, enacted under Lyndon B. Johnson

4. The Social Security Act, enacted for limited recipients in 1935 under FDR and expanded under Harry Truman and LBJ

5. Medicare,
which provides greatly subsidized health care to retirees

6. The Clean Water Act, first enacted under Truman in 1948

7. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (signed into law under Bill Clinton)

8. The Rural Electrification Act of 1936 (FDR)

So thank a Liberal today if your head didn't explode -- and maybe add a hug. Liberals need love, too!

No need for thank a liberal for many things on that list that you count as a positive. No explosion of my head either. That was uber hyperbole, right?

You forgot to mention child labor laws, although some right wingers consider them to be evil and Communist.

Child labor laws were a good thing. Many other things on that list of "accomplishments" helped to create the welfare society we have today.

Anyway liberals of the past were not like liberals today. Fact.

The same can be said about Republicans. Ron Paul is what Republicans used to be like. When they say they favor small limited government they mean it! They don't pick and choose like today's Republicans. I think Liberals are still much more in line with their past than Republicans.

Arent you fortunate you dont need any of those "other things"
Rather than look at the so called welfare programs in a derogatory way i look at them as social programs to help those less fortunate or those who have fallen on hard times. I've seen many who are very comfortable in life one year and on unemployment insurance the next year and food stamps shortly thereafter.Yeah its easy to criticize these social programs when everything is going well but if you ever fall on hard times you'll be glad they are there..

Liberals and liberal policies have done far more damage to this country than good. I'll withhold my thanks, thanks.

you mean the SAME bill that johnson got killed in 1957 when eisenhower was president? and dont forget that if it was not for republicans, that act would have died in congress in 1964 also, as it was solidly opposed by southern democrats.

also dont forget that the vast majority of these things has bipartisan support, and without that bipartisan support nearly all of it would have gone down in flames.

as for the ten things to thank obama for, pure rubbish. the obamacare act is going to cost the country far more than it saves.

Quote:
The end of the Stem Cell Research Ban, for which Obama takes full credit. He used an executive order in March 2009 to end former President George W. Bush’s ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
as for this tidbit, it is also pure rubbish. federal funding was not banned, just limited to lines already open.

it is obvious that the article was written with a liberal slant, and has just enough facts to be compelling, but does not tell the whole truth.
