I ask this question because I have constantly had to correct my own children on what they have been taught in school which is the same thing I was taught when I was in school and much of it was false or at least misleading. For example, we were and still are taught that it was Paul Revere that rode through the hamlets and villages of New England warning people that the British were coming when in fact the person that did that was a postal worker named Israel Bissell. Paul Revere actually did the opposite thing and rode TO the Brits to warn them that the Americans were armed.
There was a great show on a few years back called Myth America, it was all about how we are being taught incorrect information. History News Network (http://hnn.us/articles/40786.html - broken link)
I know the Paul Revere story is off but I don't think your version is correct either.

American children are taught a very condensed, watered down and whitewashed version of American history. That is why I believe that it is so important for parents to go the extra step to make children read and learn beyond what is taught in schools. ALL parents need to employ some additional "home schooling" as an addendum to what they learn in the classroom.

You mean Sarah Palin was right about letting the Brits know the Americans were well armed and weren't going down without a fight.

Err...no. Paul Revere is the more famous of the "midnight rides", but he did not warn the British. But when mentioning the "midnight rides" you should also have your child learn about Dawes, and Prescott as well, since they also alarm riders along w/ as many as 40 others. The biggest note of all, is that Revere I believe w/out referencing history books was captured approx 25 miles into his "route". There is no way he was able to deliver his warning to enough people to make a difference. Bissell however covered the entire distance from MA to PA. Bissell was also reported to be black.

No, that is not what Paul Revere did. He was stopped by the Brits, and at that point gave them a warning. Gimme a break!
Although I'm sure Sarah Palin is busy writing her own version.
