I pay around $180/mo for our insurance. The coverage is excellent. Not my fault that I take advantage of what is offered to me. I was simply pointing out that insurance co's would rather spend thousands then spend a few bucks.
BTW...wanna get even more angry? We can get a new pair yearly if we so choose.
If the hearing aids don't need replacement then you are defrauding your insurance company .... not exactly something to be proud of. Like another person said, why not do the ethical thing and pay for the molds out of pocket. Consider that fact that you are a father and should be setting a good example.

My son needs hearing aids that are able to receive FM transmission via a mic that the teacher wears. Our son will be starting kindergarten next year and it will be vital he has those aids. His current aids do not have that option.
It's under FEHB. I'm a postal worker. We get decent insurance.
And the price was for Siemens hearing aids for children. Just quoting the price the audiologist told us.
You're lucky. Most plans don't cover hearing aids at all.
Siemens makes all levels of hearing aids from entry level to high end, but they aren't leaders in the field. Phonak is known as the leader in pediatric hearing aids. Regardless, that price range is not high end. It's mid-level at best.

Okay...we will ask about the Phonak aids then. It's all covered either way.

Defrauding the insurance company? No...
You can get an FM boot for his current aids if they're only a couple years old. Yes, you are defrauding the insurance company. Besides, what idiot audiologist would fit a kid with hearing aids that didn't have an FM receiver in the first place? I don't believe his current aids don't have FM unless your audiologist is completely incompetent.

We talked about the add-on device. My son has already lost one aid. Adding in more items to lose doesn't make sense. And he has had these aids since he was a little over 1 y/o. Oh an we paid for these aids OOP. I had different insurance then. These will be the first aids with our current insurance.

Those aids last 5-7 years. One year old is still considered new. Siemens doesn't even have integrated FM receivers, so you're still going to have a boot device add-on. Only Phonak makes integrated FM's.
ETA: I misread your post. Assuming his aids are 4 years old it probably makes sense to replace them ONLY if you're getting integrated FM.

Okay...what do you want from me? The whole point I was trying to make was that insurance companies would rather spend a lot then spend a few bucks.

Well, this is FEHB plan. That's Federal Employee Health Benefit plan. That's paid for by the taxpayers. This is the perfect example of government waste. Private insurers not contracted by the government to provide health benefits to federal employees would never allow this. Ever. I'm not sure your point other than to point out government excess and wasteful spending. Although, in your specific case, it does make sense to replace his aids.
