FBI table - Crime in the US; 1991-2010

FBI: violent crime down by 6 percent last year (http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2011/09/19/fbi_violent_crime_down_by_6_percent_last_year/ - broken link)

Quote:
The rate for murder and non-negligent manslaughter fell to 4.8 per 100,000 population, less than half what it was two decades ago. The last time that rate was lower was in 1963, according to FBI crime data.
Indeed, the last time the American rate was lower than 4.8 per 100,000 was 1963, when it was 4.6. And the 1963 rate was actually a dip compared to 1960 and 1961, when the rate was 5.1 and 4.8, respectively.

As the average age of the population continues to rise, we are enjoying a continued decline in crime rates.

Unfortunately, 4.8 is still well above our "peer" countries elsewhere in the developed world. But, it's a lot better than it used to be (the murder rate in 1991 was 9.8).

Most of the developed world is less 'diverse' so of course their murder rate will be less.

People forget the U.S was 90% White up until the 1970s when the 1965 immigration act destroyed things - a bill which was heavily pushed and promoted by the Kennedy's and Jewish groups.

I don't think we will see a dip in our crime rates either. Mainly because the people getting older are White and the young 'youths' are going to be predominately Hispanic as Whites aren't replacing themselves.

Pretty much all crime is down, and not just this year, but it has been on a decline for several years now.

hmmm could it be that things just aren't as bad as media wants to promote?

I know the repugs won't want to think Obama has had any positive effect... can't give him any credit for doing good things.

This has nothing to do with Obama, it's steady drop...

Here's a table with state-by-state rates:

FBI - Crime in the United States - Table 5

The state with the highest murder rate was Louisiana, at 11.2 murders per 100,000 people for 2010.

The lowest was New Hampshire at 1.0.

Default FBI crime stats released!!!

The FBI released its annual crime statistics for the previous year. Basically crime is down in most places in spite of the hardships from the recession. Why? Any theories that YOU may have? Discuss.

This just goes to show that there is no correlation between crime and a bad economy. Criminals are morally not economically bankrupt.
