Bill Maher is a national treasure. And the fact that he so annoys the fringe right, the teabaggers and the religious zealots is just icing on the cake.
He annoys me because he rarely has a dissenting voice on his show. It's basically four people sitting around a table lying to an adoring audience.
He also does a monologue that is simply not funny.

He's a pretentious misanthrope that thinks 90% of the US population are too stupid to think for themselves and need smart people like him telling them how to live. Pretending what Maher says is funny doesn't mean you're smart, it means you're as dumb as he thinks you are.
Wrong, he thinks 50% of Americans are too stupid to think for themselves but watch FOX News for instructions.

I think you're annoyed at him because you're at the receiving end when he speaks his mind. He ain't politically correct enough. Anyway, your claim about lack of dissenting voice doesn't hold a candle either. While I've rarely watched him, and only by accident flipping channels with nothing else to, I've seem ample evidence of dissenting voices in his shows. Unless, you're going to claim that they aren't the voices that represent the fundamentalist America. But then, I would say likes of Ann Coulter fills the void, if not Matt Kibbe (CEO, FreedomWorks), Margaret Hoover (conservative strategist), Rich Galen (republican strategist) and that is just among the last few shows.
if the only humor you find appealing is personal attacks on conservatives, I'd think that it's self-explanatory.
