If it were a Christian based public school the ACLU would be on this like white on rice.

I'd hate to be the very first teacher who passed out an "F" to a student!!

Seriously, though, you are absolutely correct in your guess as to the response of the ACLU---I'm a disillusioned former contributor. One time many decades ago, this was a viable, worthwhile organization who championed some very worthy causes. Very sad......

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! I cannot believe this school will open. The ACLU's inaction to fight against this school should be the final straw to show they are an agenda driven org.

Groups Rally For and Against Planned Arabic-Themed Public School in Brooklyn (http://www.myfoxny.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessionid=DA1B3D0255EB0E9B37453D1800091CFC ?contentId=4124172&version=5&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1 - broken link)

Isn't New York also the state where they opened a school for homosexuals?

Did everyone miss social studies class the day they made the distinction between "Arab" and "Muslim?"

"Arab" is nothing more than an ethnicity. Muslim = religion. Not all Arabs are Muslim, and the largest Muslim nation in the world is an Asian nation, Indonesia.

Please tell me again why the ACLU needs to get involved?

Look, I don't agree with taxpayer money being spent on such types of ethnically-focused public schools either..... but it's not segregation unless only Arabs are allowed to go there. The school definitely needs to be monitored, however, to ensure that there isn't any religious instruction going on.

If you ask me, "Arab studies" should simply be an offering at regular school, like "Spanish studies" or "French studies."

I'm glad people are protesting though. Seems a heckuva lot more effective that whining that the ACLU hasn't gotten involved!

Yeha, I have problems with it being a public school. If it was private it's really not my concern.

And by the way, the school is named after a CHRISTIAN Arab poet.

I agree with TRIMT7, theres no need to get your panties in a bunch. This would be different of course if it was a school that taught extremism, but that wont be the case. If the school teaches American english, American history and teaches its pupils to obey the laws and government then I have no problem with it.

That student would give you a "J" for jihad.

Some critics on the news channels said that school and city officials were being too closed mouthed about the cirriculum particularly where religious aspects are concerned.
