North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue today came out against a proposed constitutional amendment to further prohibit gay marriage in the state, saying that focusing on jobs was a more important concern.
N.C. governor opposes constitutional ban on same-sex marriage

Nice to see the leader of a Southern state speak out on this issue. North Carolina law already restricts marriage to opposite sex couples. These constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage are unnecessary, and they have little to do with marriage, as far as I've seen. They're used as a referendum on homosexuality.

If it's one thing I liked about living in North Carolina, it's that it had many of the good southern qualities, (warm weather, nice people, manners) mixed with a massive progressive streak. A lot of it doesn't match the southern stereotype, especially in the Triangle and the Piedmont.

If I ever returned South again, NC is the place.

There is already a law prohibiting same sex marriage so there is no need to add a constitutional amendment except to please Evangelical donors of republican party.

The amendment would void same-sex partner benefits offered by employers and would interfere with domestic violence protections for unmarried couples living together.

So you would support someone who stated that Congressional elections should be suspended for 2 years? She is backing off that statement, to be fair. She is a politician after all. Wait and see if she backs off this one as well.

Correct.

And all this brought to you by people of religion. You know, the religions who claim to be all about love, peace and understanding

Nothing like a good wave of hate, bigotry and venom to spread the "Love" of religions.

Is it not interesting that Extreme Right Wingers/GOPers are always speaking out and proposing laws and policies that are indentical to the vicious totalitarian laws of Islamic nations? There's a great irony here.

Realistically, Bev Perdue did nothing more than deflect, sidestep and re-direct.

She didn't take a stand againt this proposed constitutional amendment.

She's a weasel.

Bev has been busy the last many months screwing Carolinians, in favor of Insurance Companies/Financial Corporations/Big Pharmaceutical. She laid down a major screwing of the people with North Carolina HB542.

Bev Perdue is not to be praised or given props for anything. The best you can say about her here, regarding this issue, is that she doesn't want to dedicate time to it, right now; because she sees higher priorities.
