The quality of our higher education environment (overall) is pretty much the highest in the world, like our healthcare. Not talking about affordability, talking about quality. Why should it be free if it will no longer be the highest quality?

No. There just isn't a bitterness about having to work for it. Plenty of people worked their way through college and university. If you're really cut out for college in the first place, college isn't all that hard, it's actually rather fun and any of us who went to college know that the time you spend in a classroom absorbing all that knowledge is really only a few hours each day.

I have a bucket load of degrees and LOVE higher education. However, I obtained useful degrees that could do something for me. I also minored in Art History, which could do absolutely nothing for me. I really enjoy learning (even today), but one should be practical when selecting a course of study. Students need to think of it as an investment for a future job. If there are no good paying jobs in that field that one can readily obtain, it is a very poor investment.

The entitlement greedy left just refuses to accept the concept that we have to WORK for what we want.
College was fun! Maybe that is why many of the left academia decide to try to make a career out of it. That is fine.....just do it on your own dime.
Some belong at vocational schools or community colleges, where the cost is much less than university.
Still, the point. If you want to go to college, do it on your own dime.
Higher education costs are not that bad if you go to a community college first followed by a state college. I am not certain about all states but in NY and CA the in state tuition rate is relatively low. People with good grades and little money also are usually able to get scholarships. Couple this with the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the costs are minimal. And that can easily be covered by a low interest rate student loan. Finally a part time job can be the most important part of someone's education.
This poor boy probably means he wants someone to pay his party costs also.
Doesn't really matter about other countries. This is the United States and college education is not provided to everyone. This is not a socialistic society and never will be.....thank goodness!
Additionally, the US provides plenty of opportunity to those whom want to better their life - far more than most countries. However, one must work for that and not expect it to be handed to them to be fair just because someone else has it.
And therein lies the difference between the majority of the left and the majority of the right.
but i think what people want to know is "why" college education is not provided or at least more attainable? And it does "matter about other countries" (bad grammar btw) because the innovation around the world will leave our consumerist country in the dust.
Because having a workforce more educated raises the standard of living for everyone.
No it doesn't. It lowers it because it floods the market with useless candidates allowing companies to pay lower wages because there is an overstock of labor. College degress are relatively useless for the most part.
Why "afraid" to work? They will have to work for the rest of their lives anyway. And often these days graduates have to do unpaid internships after graduation, so they have side jobs after college.
And since they will have to work for the rest of their lives anyway, why not get started learning to work. Learning to work, to hold a job should be more a part of the educational process than it is, and there is no good reason someone can't start working when they reach adulthood.
Have you ever hired a college graduate who had never clocked in, has no idea how to figure out overtime pay, doesn't understand why one is expected to show up for work most of the time, and has no customer service skills of any kind? Don't rule out even the least elite kind of job as something you can't learn in. In fact it's those jobs that do the most character building.
Yes the USA is different than Europe, we want it to be. Just like in the USA, it's somewhat amusing to watch that show "The Boss" where the top guy has no idea what's going on at the front lines of his own company, a show like that wouldn't likely go over in Europe but it does here.
Where was I going berserk? We are just having a discussion as far as I can see.
Is it my fault there is so little about the US to applaud currently? There are Americans here that are more critical of the US than I am...
You are welcome to bring them to Germany and pay all their living expenses.
The majority of them would leave after one week in that class-obsessed, racist hellhole.
