Perhaps you could elaborate? What corporate welfare do you mean?

Oh yes, and please explain how one relates to the other.

Bank and corporation bailouts, tax cuts for the rich, CEO's who have destroyed their firms getting bonuses, etc

All banks and corporations have paid back the tax money given them with interest. The rich are job creators, we must give them tax breaks. CEOs made deals with their board of directors that says if they screw up they will be handsomely rewarded. Thank you very much please come again.

Well, as you may know the banks paid back the loan they were forced to take. What tax cuts did the rich get, that everyone else did not. (of course that example has zero to do with corporations). CEO pay by private corporations has n othing to do with government.

How about telling us what healthcare and mythical corporate welfare have in common?

Here's my honest opinion about UHC.. but I'm not conservative.

The thing is.. we are REALLY a big country. We have MAAANY people to take care of. The cost just seems like it would be astronomical, and to the good people --aka the people who work and take care of themselves -- it will FEEL like they are once again being shafted: Working so other people can live comfortably. People get snippy and offended by this. I never understand what's wrong with taking care of yourself. With that being said, our current system is also a mess.

I don't mind paying to have insurance. I don't mind paying co-pays for doctors visits. I don't mind paying for prescriptions (I do have asthma). I don't mind paying for treatment in the hospital if I ever need it. Yet, the prices I can't agree with. This is where we, the consumers, get shafted. See, when it comes down to OTHER products and services we USUALLY have choices. If Wal-Mart sells the SAME exact TV you saw at Best Buy for $200 less, you are going to give Wal-Mart your business. If trends start showing that "more people prefer to buy TVs at Wal-Mart vs Best Buy", Best Buy will most likely start lowering prices on TVs, or at least adding bundles/rebates/gift cards in order to to attract. You can't do this with healthcare. You can't change the market through consumer demand.

The idea of UHC is nice, but we already have a bunch of wealthy people who feel they don't need to contribute fair shares through tax. We then have the 'poor' who don't pay into federal taxes, so again.. the good honest hard working people will have to pick up the slack YET AGAIN.

IMO, let's get UHC simply by:
1) Bring troops home
2) SEND ILLEGALS HOME, CLOSE BORDERS. PEOPLE CAN AND SHOULD LIVE HERE LEGALLY.
2a) Fine the HELL out of people harboring illegals through employment, places to live, etc.
2b) BTW, with them not here LEECHING off of us.. we just saved more welfare money. YAY
3) Reform the welfare system. It should be a safety net for Americans. Not a way of life. Contrary to what people think, GIVING people stuff is NOT helping. It makes them weaker.
4) Absolutely do NOT bail out companies or banks. If they make business mistakes that tanks them, that's the risk THEY took.
5) Even out the taxes. Everyone contributes the SAME percentage of INCOME. For the wealthy it's ALL income.. through investments, capital gains, ETC ETC ETC.
6) Let ALL the states handle UHC. Because of the cuts and changes, the Federal Government CAN help fund the states.. but ultimately the States should be responsible for the UHC of their citizens.

Paying FICA taxes and enjoying the insurance when you are 65 very bad.
Middlemen collecting a toll when seeing your doctor, very good.

Does all of the EU have one single UHC system? Nope. If they did then you could make the comparison.
