Apparently serving in the military is supposed to be accompanied with a vow of poverty. My brother just got back from Afghanistan with the Marines. After nearly getting killed several times, he came home and bough himself a new Dodge Challenger R/T, cash. We spent last week hooning it around town. It will probably be my turn to go oversees next year; when I get back I'm thinking about buying a Lotus Elise or a Corvette. So yeah, we like to blow s**t up and drive fast cars. Seriously has anyone looked at the military? Almost any ******* can sign up and instantly get healthcare, a government check and housing all on our dole! And for what? To screw around in some random overseas territory no one in this country cares about?

I mean seriously did you know how long the military has gained so much social benefits? It has been FOREVER! They are destorying our freedom!

I suspect the OP doesn't have the faintest idea of what Socialism actually is. Pay in return for employment is not socialism. The benefits are part of their pay contract.
I do protect myself via the 2nd Amendment. However, I cannot protect the borders of our country. Thus, we have a military. Aside from upholding the US Constitution and protecting liberty defense of country is one of the primary responsibilities of our federal government. Things like forced Social Security participation, Medicare, Medicaid, which are symbols of actual socialism, are not subjects of your ire? Why not?
If the OP want's to be upset about something why not be upset about the robbing of wealth from every American via the US Treasury and the Federal Reserve? Why not be upset about the fascist economy of both Bush and Obama?

I am certainly glad you weren't around in 1954 when I enlisted in the Army since I spent 10 months in Bad Aibling, Germany, often called the Hawaii of Germany and 14 in northeast Italy at government expense. We spied on the Iron Curtain military radio communications and I am sure you wouldn't have liked that either. Of course, you don't know that those people were serving for Communist governments, do you? None of us owned new vehicles or even old ones since we didn't get paid enough to do that.

heck you dont even have to go back to 1954. even as late as the early 80s many enlisted personal would pool their money together and buy a car for everyone in the pool to use. and they would pass it down to other when they left for another assignment.

reagan was no communist i can assure you of that. if you want to see REAL communism in operation, why dont you move to cuba or north korea? as i said before the military is not and never has been a democracy, and that is true in EVERY country that has EVER graced the earth. and there is a good reason for that. the US has a free market(mostly) economy BECAUSE of our military, and our freedoms.

its not about the wages paid to the teachers, or do you not understand what the issues in a variety of states was about? it was the benefits that were practically given to the teachers, and other public sector unions. those benefits were huge compared to what they paid into the system. less than half what the private sector unions paid.

and by the way, to the OP, reagan was not the one that opened up the spending to the military, that was done back in the late 40s by truman, and then every president afterwards until carter. reagan went in and rebuilt our military after carter gutted it.
it has been said that if you can read and write, thank a teacher. and i agree with that, but it has also been said that if you can do this as a free man, thank a soldier, and i agree with that also.
