TSA Doing Random Truck Searches On Tennessee Highway - Slashdot

Tennessee Becomes First State To Fight Terrorism Statewide - NewsChannel5.com | Nashville News, Weather & Sports

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security on Tuesday partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and several other federal and state agencies for a safety enforcement and awareness operation on Tennessee’s interstates and two metropolitan-area bus stations. They are randomly inspecting vehicles on highways in Tennessee.

“People generally associate the TSA with airport security…but now we have moved on to other forms of transportation, such as highways, buses and railways,” said Kevin McCarthy, TSA federal security director for West Tennessee.

To increase national security, the TSA created Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response, known as VIPR, teams, which consist of federal air marshals, surface transportation security inspectors, transportation security officers, behavior detention officers and explosive detection canine teams.

A thread from earlier today.

//www.city-data.com/forum/polit...-highways.html

I'll say once it again. It's unconstitutional and it's BS.

You never know when someone will fly an auto into a tall building. Just can't be too careful.

"In the name of National Security" is all it takes to toss your constitutional rights under the bus.

Now they think more terrorists are on the roads than on planes.
Oh and they are also going to be screening at bus stations too.

Feel safe yet ?

"See something, Say something" coming back at ya twofold now.

I'm glad a thread was started abut this. I was beginning to think nobody minded except me that these random inspections were starting. It is PURE HARASSMENT.

They did find a trucker with a loose barrel.

And when no actual terrorists are apprehended on Tn's highway system, the TSA will lay claim that it is a result of their ever vigilant presence.

We used to have something called the 4th Amendment to the Constitution. But that was then this is now. "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized"
