Tax Court Rules that Sex Change is Now Deductible | Moneyland | TIME.com

So what are your thoughts? Are sex change operations legitimate medical procedures for the transgendered, or just cosmetic procedures for the confused?

And in other trans news, the dismembered and burned torso of a teenaged transgendered woman missing for several days was just found on the side of the road in what, at the outset, appears to be a hate-crime:

It's nothing more than cosmetic surgery. If you want to pretend to be a member of the opposite sex, a human lizardman or even just a freak with face tattoos and giant holes in your earlobes then do it on your own dime.

That's total nonsense if that's the case. As open as I am for people choosing to be who they are, they should do it completely at their own expense.

Tax deductions and all that stuff needs to be eliminated or cut. Spending in the tax code is a big reason why we have high deficits.

While I don't agree with this tax deduction, I feel there's bigger things to worry about. If you chopped off 10 of my fingers, I'd still be able to count on my hands how many people I know personally that will be taking advantage of this tax deduction. If we're going to cut tax deductions, cut those that are both silly and have largest impacts. Such as the child credit.

No elective surgery should be deductible or considered a covered expense.

I agree, but there can still be debate as to what is considered "elective". If my eyes are screwed up but I can see as long as I wear glasses, then is eye surgery "elective"?

I person would have to be audited to even have the subject come up.

I missed a line once and was audited. (two years at once)

At the meeting it came out I was deducting my dog's expenses under medical.

After I explain I used my dogs in our advertising they said put it in advertising.

That would be fine.
