This question is coming from someone who considers himself to be pretty dead-center.

Which do you think is worse, "Liberals" and "Big Government" trying to regulate your daily life and babysit you, or "Conservatives" and "Small Governments" trying to regulate your morality and tell you what is "right" and what is "wrong"?

I'm a liberal. I think individuals should regulate their individual lives, daily life stuff. I think the government should regulate the stuff I can't, the environment, economy, infrastructure, and national security.

With those sentiments, you should be a conservative. Conservatives are for the government getting out of their lives and their wallet. Liberals are for more regulation and redistribution of one's own wealth. For those who value liberty and personal freedom, being conservative is the way to go. If you value more government financial and regulatory interference in your life, being a liberal is the way to go.

Examples-

1. liberals are for more taxes, i.e. interfering with one's personal finances
2. liberals are for more social programs, i.e. redistributing one's wealth to others who have not earned it
3. liberals are for restrictions of free speech, i.e. fairness doctrine, union card check, shouting down political opponants at universities
4. liberals are for restrictions of the press, i.e. calls for banning FOX news and any conservative news outlet
5. liberals are for restrictions on voting, i.e. Black Panthers obstructing elections and ACORN registering dead people and illegals
6. liberals are for restrictions on personal choices i.e. banning guns, smoking, gas guzzling cars
7. liberals are for restrictions on free labor, i.e. opposing a national right to work act and supporting only those workers who are union members
8. liberals are for restriction of free enterprise, i.e. banning domestic drilling, refining, and pipelines

The conservative movement is completely the opposite. They are for big government in people's daily lives and are libertarian when it comes to the actual big things that government should be involved in.

If the religious right element in conservativism was marginalized there would be far more conservatives in this country.

It is my *opinion* that this is slowly occurring.
