There's no doubt that these are the pictures of the day. U.S. President Barack Obama kissing his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Abbas embracing Benjamin Netanyahu, and Germany's Angela Merkel locking lips with Nicolas Sarkozy. Is this bad fan fiction? A new approach to international diplomacy?
The stunning (albeit photoshopped) images are part of a new campaign by the United Colors of Benetton. Alessandro Benetton, executive deputy chairman, who presented the ads in Paris on Wednesday, said they were meant to promote the idea of "unhate," The Times Of India writes.
I think it's wierd that there are still people who think that doing the most outrageous and/or offensive thing they can get away with makes them hip and edgy.

Thank you. I was wondering the other day (before I saw this ad), how much shock value is too much. I think we are at the end or downward part of the shock value in advertising.
The idea of unhate, unity, whatever is good but I think was poorly executed here. I just find it offensive and in poor taste.
Looking forward to what other people have to say about it.
Benetton is known for making controversial adverts when their brand is in the toilet.
Usually it has a "resurrecting" effect for their brand and their clout goes up and people want to buy their products.
In my opinion this advert does nothing but disgust me, it's because they're using world leaders.
It's offensive.
It is offensive. Way too pushy. I will probably think twice before buying their products again. Not saying I will deliberately boycott; but these offensive images will probably come to mind when I am considering a product and may cause me to select the alternate choice in the store. Bet I'm not alone. I think this marketing ploy will backfire.
