Howard University Student Banned From Campus Following Dorm Room Fight (http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/howard-university-student-banned-from-campus-following-dorm-room-fight-111611?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook# .TsUKfJCehs8.facebook - broken link)
Two roommates were involved in a physical dorm fight and now they are not allowed back on campus.
The fight is fairly egregious. But to effectively stop a student's education is more problematic to me. The university has a loco parentis obligation which it seems they just passed on to the local police.
I think a quick conversation with some other gals on that dorm floor would get to the bottom of which one, if not both was the general instigator.
A few people have been shot in and around Howard University recently, putting the school in the headlines. Considering black-on-black crime has been at horrific levels for years on end, it doesn't bode well for a historically black university to degenerate into this type of activity. Zero-tolerance is the only way to go.....4.0 GPA's are irrelevant.

Most universities haven't acted in loco parentis for since the 1970s. Is Howard an exception?
I am not familiar with the Maryland area but I highly doubt there is a problem with a "rash of fights" going on amongst black college girls. You are way too focused on black people also IMO. It is really hilarious to me.
Just to note, I live in Atlanta and went to an HBCU. Here in Atlanta we have the largest conglomerate of HBCUs in one area, the Atlanta University Center (AUC). There have been violent incidents at the AUC like most universities but there are actually less reported acts of violence occuring at the AUC, which is in a bad neighborhood (I live in the neighborhood) versus Georgia Tech. It is rare to hear of any student involved crime at GT or any of the schools in the AUC, which include Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark Atlanta University my alma mater and which is the largest HBCU in the country.

I agree with this. She had choices and made the wrong choice. Violence from students should never be tolerated and I agree with Howard University's decision 100%.

Maybe you shouldn't comment on things you are not familiar about?
A female Frostburg State University student intervenes in an altercation at an off-campus party and gets slashed by a woman hosting the celebration, authorities say. Two Bowie State University suitemates spar over music, and one woman cuts the other’s throat. Female roommates at Howard University argue in the kitchen, and one throws a pot of hot water at the other.
Violent episodes between females are on the rise, authorities said, on playgrounds, in high school hallways and on college campuses across the country, where at least four women have been charged with killing female students since March. The violence is manifesting in an increased number of random assaults, group fights, flash-mob crimes and vicious one-on-one attacks, including the killings at Frostburg State on Nov. 6 and at Bowie State in September.

Some people are unfit to attend college. Higher education is a priviledge and not a right.
