It really pisses me off to have left handed people calling SS welfare. I have always believed that when you don't pay any taxes but do get help from the government you are on welfare.

I was so proud of Bill Clinton when he signed the welfare cut bills passed by the Congress in the 1990s but I guess most of you today don't like what he did.

"Wealthy" vs "poorest" states doesn't mean that much without comparing cost of living. From your link:

A Mississippian earning $38,000 can live about as well as a New Yorker in pricey Manhattan with a salary of more than $93,000.

The story varies, roy. It always has teh same moral though -- she's "gaming the sytem" and is probably illegal - and meanwhile, hard working Americans such as themselves can't even get half the benefits she's getting. It's a crying shame to these welfare conservatives.

Correctamundo.

And furthermore, it's not just the social safety net. Price supports for farmers and ranchers, large wasteful defense programs, defense contractors, special tax exemptions for corporations, bailouts, etc...ALL WELFARE! Just the same as that so called "welfare queen" in the projects or trailer park. No difference.

So hell yea...i know a BUNCH of conservatives on welfare.

I only get mad at this when you support people who want to end benefits for people my age. (I'm 35.) I have paid into social security for 19 years. I consider that an investment. If I'm not going to see any of it back though, then that's just stealing from me to give to you ... that's welfare, friend.

I paid into SS so the Democrat Congress could use the money to "buy" friends in the 1950s. I don't know if any of the money I paid went to my parents or anyone else back then since they were both paying payroll taxes to SS also. I do know that they took over $3 trillion to use for foreign aid, and other kinds of "pork barrel" crap. Do you not know that Congress took all SS money, put it into the General Fund and last year when there was no "surplus" to waste started talking about a deficiency? Sure you know that.

I don't know how much I paid in went for things other than checks to either of my parents. My dad lived to be 97 so he got a lot of it.

So if a large corporation doesn't any taxes and gets government help in the form of infrastructure (that they don't pay for), isn't that welfare Roy?

BTW...I love what Clinton did..for the record. But since he did it, why do you guys harp on the welfare issue since we've already had reform?

Roy, do you support me getting SS benefits since I am being forced to pay into it?

I agree, but cost of living is not factored into whether or not you qualify for welfare. It is based on poverty limits. So, I guess you could say receipients in states that have higher COL actually need it MORE than all these poor red states.
