I'd just like to say that pit bulls can be wonderful pets. They are not naturally a vicious dog, and they have received a bad name because people with smaller frontal lobes appear to want to make them into some kind of extension of their own short tempers and lack of physical ability to back it up.

Its kind of like what they say about guys and their cars.

I own a Rottweiler, who also have a bad name. But she is the sweetest dog, very obedient, and good natured. But I'm not training her to fight or to kill people.

Its not the breed, its how you train them, or the lack of training.

I am afraid of pit bulls. I know that they are, for whatever reason, a very abused breed and attract the wrong types of owners. I live in an area where many less than responsible people own the breed. I have found quite a few of these dogs in my yard, unlicensed and aggressive. I've had to call animal control many times.

Again, I understand that it isn't the whole breed. But from my personal experience with them, I don't trust the dogs and I am very afraid of them for myself, my children and our dog.

Thats what a friend of mine said about a pitbull he owned for a couple of years until one day for no reason it tried to tear off his wifes arm.
Maybe some never have a problem with their pet Pitbull but i'd never leave my kids alone with one of those dogs, and i'd never own one as i just dont trust em...

Yep every person it seems who's dog bites somebody has the same thing to say. Pit bulls are a violent breed, they were bred to fight end of story. You want to own one then your taking a chance I don't care how "nice" they are or are treated. Very powerful animal. Anybody who puts their children around them is asking for trouble too IMO. There is a reason laws have been passed to ban pit bulls in some places.
