ISAF says drone lost over Afghanistan late last week | Reuters

Quote:
A surveillance drone flying over western Afghanistan had gone out of control late last week and may be the one Iran said it had shot down over its own airspace, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Sunday.
"The UAV to which the Iranians are referring may be a U.S. unarmed reconnaissance aircraft that had been flying a mission over western Afghanistan late last week. The operators of the UAV lost control of the aircraft and had been working to determine its status," an ISAF statement said.
The statement about the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was issued in Kabul and released to reporters covering an international conference on Afghanistan in the German city Bonn.
Iran doesn't have drones. They do have spy satellites that they purchased from Russia and are operated by russian trained technicians that fly over our bases and CIA/NSA buildings every 24 hours.

And now this on the wires:

Time for the SR-71 to be brought back out of mothballs. Not one EVER shot down.

Surgical strikes?

If we can disarm thier Nuclear capabilities, with only a few drones, the better for it.
Im not in favor of turning Iran into a huge glass ashtray, and have millions of lives snuffed out in a nuclear blast. Nor, am I in favor of the Iranian people doing the same thing to Isread or any of our facilities.

Sabre rattling, has become a huge thing in the Political Arena, and, if someone 'slips up' and launches, then all Hell is going to break loose, and the Iranians will get what they have been wishing for, a huge amount of destruction to bring about ultimate chaos, because they believe that the 'Iman' will return in that time... Sorry, if he does, they wont be around to witness it, unless its in the bottom of that ashtray.

I wish you well...

Jesse

RQ-170's don't carry missiles. They are snoop & poop drones. Predators and Grey Eagles are armed and can be used as A-2-G platforms.

Well the big deal is that they are a sovereign country who has not given us a right to invade their airspace. Could be considered an act of war...like we need another one, and why would be there to start with?

I would be surprised and disappointed if we did not have a lot of surveillance on Iran, including drones.

I sort of doubt it but if true they have every right to shoot it out of their airspace.

It's not that I doubt we have drones flying over Iran all the time, I just doubt the Iranians have the ability to bring one down, particularly intact. They aren't that easy to detect.

I like that explanation.."we lost control last week and don't know where it is" so if it goes into your country it's not really our intention. Total accident. We're not really the bad guys.

Shocking! Please alert the media.

Iran simply doesn't want a war with America. They couldn't handle Iraq, remember?

To put things in perspective, Iranian sponsored terrorists attacked the US embassy in Teheran in 1979, illegally holding the embassy staff hostage for over a year. Then Iranian sponsored terrorists attacked the US embassy in Lebanon in 1983, killing hundreds of Americans. Those too, were acts of war.

How many casualties did Iran suffer in this drone incident?

Relax. This won't start another one.

Surveillance. The Iranian government is a rogue regime on the level of N Korea. The world needs to keep an eye on them. You can bet that the USA is not the only nation concerned over their volatile and provocative behavior.

You seem to miss the point. It is not about whether we can get away with it. It is about good foreign policy. Eventually the bully gets his arse kicked. Besides, why would they launch a conventional war. That would absurd. They would do covert terrorism.

The last important point. What is that we have to gain by provoking Iran?
