Almost definitely trumped up charges by the NYPD. There might have been some gentle contact, yelling and resistance and they backed up and called for reinforcements. Knowing cops, you can't sneeze on them when showing any attitude without getting slapped with assault on a police officer.
Kinda funny story if true but they deserve some community service.
