SEATTLE (Reuters) - Hertz rental car company, facing a religious discrimination suit by 25 fired Muslim drivers, said on Thursday it would "vigorously defend" itself in a dispute involving prayer breaks at its Seattle airport office.
Hertz says the drivers, all of them Somali natives, refused to clock in and out for the 10-minute paid breaks they took twice daily, as required under their union contract, and abused their breaks by failing to return to work promptly.
No word if they are also demanding foot baths and halal vending machines in the break room or not.

If the retards wanna practice any their kooky beliefs, let them do it on their own time, not the company dime.

By that belief shouldn't people have to work on Christmas and Easter? Why should employers have to pay holiday time for those with "kooky" beliefs?

Who's making them do that? From my experience, holiday pay is a benefit, not a requirement.

Christmas is a federal holiday and many people DO work on Easter. I don't get holiday pay for Easter.

You are 100% correct, employers should not be forced to pay extra so someone can observe a religious holiday.

Religion (in whatever delusional form people may believe in) is a personal choice and should be kept to oneself.

Totally irrelevant; employers don't pay anything for kooky beliefs. Christmas, for example, is a holiday for almost every employer. But, to get paid for that holiday, one does not have to be a Christian or believe in anything. One does not need to go to church, pray, or even put up a Christmas tree. No "religious observation" need take place to take advantage of that paid holiday, if the employer offers it as a paid holiday. (Some people must work on holidays anyway).

I'm not sure if anyone actually read the article. It stated that Muslims were allowed to take prayer breaks, but that they were required to return to work quickly, and they often weren't returning quickly so some of them were fired for that reason. Apparently the union contract allows for cigarette breaks (which I have a problem with), and this courtesy was extended to Muslims so they could pray. So, the way I read this, Muslims and smokers get special treatment because they pray or smoke. I wonder if they can double up on the privileges if they're both?
