SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A senior Mormon leader said in a sermon Sunday in Salt Lake City same-sex attraction can be overcome and non-heterosexual unions are morally wrong.
O.K.. Now that I read the article, I have this to say...The 'Latter-Day-Saints' need to open their minds with some LSD.
Packer told more than 20,000 church members at the LDS Conference Center and millions more watching the church's 180th Annual General Conference via satellite those who advocate legalizing same-sex marriage seek to "legalize immorality," The Salt Lake Tribune reported.
No one can say what nature intended for anything. The ego of man will be our downfall. What a dopey, sophomoric, medieval way of thinking.
Gays "changing" to straight and "reparative therapy" have very poor histories of success because sexual identity can't be changed - Tony Perkins was Exhibit A. (The actor, not the Religious Right figure).
Those few "gays" who become heterosexual are really bisexuals with a straight leaning and not truly homosexual.
OTOH, Mormonism can be overcome and there are many who have been able to overcome the LDS church's teachings.
The same statements have been said by New Life Church in Colorado Springs, referring to Ted Haggard.
The "narrow path" christian leaders believe that homosexuality is a mental disorder. As a result it can be cured or suffocated through counseling. I have even heard it said by some of these leaders that the government should fund studies into drugs to "correct the behavior".
It should be noted that they did not take this position until they were proven wrong that homosexuality is not a decision as they used to argue.
Oh yeah. I'm sure that if I just keep praying to that old-time religion, I'll one day have a desperate urge to perform cunnilingus on a woman.
(No offense intended to the many women who I like - nonsexually.)
I am curious if you have ever been approached by anyone with the Idea that homosexuality is a mental illness. If so what was your reaction and their response.
This topic clearly shows why religion should not control a government. It should have a voice like all American ideas but not control.
