Which of the following, in your opinion, is the biggest threat to the future of our country?

Big government, big business or big labor?

Why?

Any of them could be, but based on today's economic climate, the latter two. The reason that any of them could be a threat is one word; power. The more power big government, big business or big labor has, the more it can be counted on that they'll take advantage in a way that benefits them. Too much power for any arena is too scary for me personally to think about.

Ever increasing population w/ finite resources overrides everything else, including government, business and labor.

I would suggest both overt and covert corruption. Overt corruption is donors expecting special consideration for political contributions. Covert corruption is insider dealing in government contracting and by elected representatives.

Government and business must never collude because it weakens both. If a government knows it can remain in power by buying votes with corporate bribes and business know they can take excess risk because they know the government they control will bail them out of bankruptcy the government ceases to govern and the businesses cease to be profitable. The result is total economic failure as the capital has been wasted on non productive investment.

The greatest threat is our economic dependency on military spending as subsidy and employment enhancement. The threat is we borrow money from our competitors and enemies to pay for the unending stimulus. The money we have borrowed and wasted on our Forever War in the Middle East could have been used to enhance our transportation system to make our own country more productive. Instead our chief competitor, China, leant us the money to waste it in a way that actually weakens us.

My greatest fear is we will become an economic colony of china where they are importing our raw materials and we are importing their manufactured goods. That is a downhill slide for us because the value added to the raw materials remains in China instead of in this country. We have to reverse these courses if we intend to remain a country with wide spread prosperity. Continuing this direction will inevitably lead to a society split into the very few ultra wealthy and a mass of debt ridden industrial peasants and dependant poor on a miserly dole.

I suggest we stop our Forever War and divert the military spending into refurbishing and enhancing our domestic infrastructure and energy supplies. We need to eliminate our dependence on mid east oil (already nearly accomplished) and our desire for approval of some of the residents. The entire mid east needs to settle its own differences with each other without our taking any sides in the inevitable conflict. We cannot afford to get caught in the internal war that will dominate Islam in the coming decades.

In fewer words we need honest businessmen working within the control of honest government to tend to our own needs before we collapse from inattention and corruption.

The biggest threat we face as a country, and really as humans, is energy and water supply. Demand is increasing while supply is stagnant at best. It just so happens that big government and big business are preventing us for actually changing anything for the better.

Big Government: It seems the government is always just a step behind the times.. which is fine as long as they don't have too much power.

Followed by:

High Cost of Living
Lack of Saving
Lack of Education

Humans desire for power. There is always a small group of people who end up calling the shots. Even in America.
