Television generally caters to the largest demographic. The largest population in the U.S. is white women, followed by white men. Networks have to keep these two groups happy, or else they lose money. Everyone else is basically marginalized. Magazines operate the same way. It is truly messed up, but at the end of the day, networks are about keeping their ratings high, and making money. Publishers are about this too.
