The House Republicans passed a one year Payroll tax cut. The Senate also wants a one year bill but did not want to miss any vacation time so they passed a 60 day payroll tax cut and went home for Christmas.
When there is disagreement with any bill, the bill goes into a joint conference committee to hash out the differences and then gets voted on again. The house appointed their committee and are in DC waiting for the Senate to appoint their committee to negotiate a bill that will be okay for both sides. Where is Harry Reid and President Obama? They are blocking the payroll tax cut.
BTW "Officials from the policy-neutral National Payroll Reporting Consortium, Inc. have expressed concern to members of Congress that the two-month payroll tax holiday passed by the Senate and supported by President Obama cannot be implemented properly". » Two-Month Payroll Tax Holiday Cannot Be Implemented Properly - Big Government
Actually it was the house republicans who block it the 2 month extension. Boner is bowing to the tea partiers in the house. He needs to get a backbone against those thugs.
Actually most us us realize that the tax and spend Dems don't want any extensions in any fashion. It's the old Br'er Rabbit trick. Hopefully the Repubs will put a bullet in the head of that hare and go on home for the holidays.
"Why are the Senate democrats blocking the Payroll tax reduction?"
The real question should be: Why are house Republicans trying to sneak things into this bill by tacking on issues that have NOTHING to do with a payroll tax deduction?
I thought they were supposed to represent small government and less spending. Interesting how that changed.

Why do you have something against putting people back to work? Why do you oppose the pipeline deal? BTW, adding stuff to the bills is and has been common practice by BOTH parties for as long as I can remember.
Oh wow, a whole $200 in 2 months!!!!!! Look out economy, I don't think you'll be able to handle all this new liquid cash coming your way!!!!!! LMAO!
sadly, the $100 billion+ this injects into the Joe Sixpack economy is actually very important. I realize it isn't much to a banker who trades $70 trillion in derivatives with the push of a button.

Dude, $25 a week will do nothing for 99% of the people.
