Democratic reaction to the news that Waste Connections, a $3.6-billion company and major Sacramento-area employer, is headed to Houston to seek a friendlier business climate tells other businesses all they need to know about the attitudes of those who run California's government.
State Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, gave these clueless and snarky remarks in response to the news: "In this instance you have a company that is, in fact, profitable, making significant revenue gains in 2011 and 2010. That doesn't speak to a bad business climate here in California when a good company is able to thrive in that way. So whatever Mr. Middelstaedt's (company CEO) reasons are to leave the great state of California, I know I'm pushing back."
The voters of California deserve it. Texas benefits because it elects business-friendly Republicans.

Yep, similar situation here in Maryland. A few big-name employers have been moving to the DC area and a lot have chosen to move to our neighbor Virginia. And we've also lost some big employers that used to be in MD to VA.
I hope CA keeps doing what they're doing. They are driving more businesses to my state every year!
Unfortunately, they are also driving more Californians here as well. At least it's generally the good ones, the ones that have had too much of the policies that are destroying CA.
google is also in obamas pocket and one of the founders are working at the White house.

In addition, Justice, the FDA and the Rhode Island U.S. attorney are reportedly looking into allegations that Google profited from selling online ads to illegal online pharmacies. Schmidt has been friendly with President Barack Obama for several years, having advised his presidential campaign and transition team and now serving on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The warm relationship between Schmidt and Obama has been called into question before by Google critics who worried the search giant was getting special treatment in certain areas, such as broadband policy.

Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama plans to discuss his economic agenda and ideas for job growth at a private dinner tonight with technology executives including Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs, Facebook Inc. founder Mark Zuckerberg, and Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt, according to an administration official.
They're fleeing California because of the mess that the previous Republican governor created, that Jerry Brown now has to clean up.
And also, as more educated populace moves to Texas as Austin and San Antonio keep growing, the more likely Texas will turn into a blue state in the near future. Combine it with the large hispanic population in the border counties, I'm dreamin' of a blue....Texas....
