A top news story that the media barely notices? I spot a contradiction.

The contradiction being that if George Bush was over this, it would be as big as the bin Laden story.

Yes, it is the contradiction of an American media that picks sides.

The question in the OP is "what are the top 10 news stories" not what should be the top news stories.

Left out DADT overturned, so honorable gays & lesbians can now serve and defend our country.

Marriage rate falls to a record low, yet gays are being fought in equal rights in marriage due to protection of sanctity of marriage, yet Kim Kardashian- 72 day marriage preserves it.

I would argue that your #1 and #10 were non events in 2011. OBL has been irrelevant for quite some time. His death changed nothing. And we have been withdrawing from Iraq for quite some time. The exit of the last few soldiers was just a conclusion that started a long time ago.
