Family does, and it's interesting to note that they don't hire anyone either. Do you consider Hungary to not matter? Does only France and Germany matter to you?
One should not forget that Europe is an aging continent with little population growth, in many places the population is even dwindling. We can't afford to do without women in our workforce. The French have generous programs, too, and they are one of the few EU countries now where families have enough children to maintain society.
Also, keep in mind that in Europe almost all colleges and universities are public. So why spend billions of tax money on the university education of women when we don't give them jobs later on?

Sounds great. Some EU countries can afford (as of now) more lavish programs. Some cannot.
Why don't they just tax the hell out of business owners for each employee they hire? It'd be the exact same thing. But no they think that if they pass enough regulation they can avoid the laws of simple mathematics.
So you don't hire people in the US because of maternity leave in Hungry?
This article has nothing to do with the US.

I find it laughable that anyone who thinks like that would be in a position to hire anyone at all, except for repairs around their home.
That's nice. Why is it laughable? Doesn't it sound logical not to hire if the costs associated with maternity leave would compel the employer to discriminate against women? What is the point of hiring anyone if the their carrying costs exceed their productive output? I think (most) Hungarians aren't interested in returning to a pre-1989 environment.
