I personally am disgusted by this. It's a shame. The boys in the video look to be between 12-15. They are young, dumb and think this is funny. Attacking anyone is a terrible offense, but to target the elderly? Honestly, I'm not sure what to say. It all seems so hopeless sometimes.
I will say that as a black person it's difficult to participate in threads like these on C-D. While I agree that this is horrendous and something needs to be done, I can't continue to support your position if you begin to go on a racist tirade.
I agree, but here is the problem.. Events like this only fan the fires of racism. Responsible citizens of every race need to start standing up to these types of incidents and calling them what they are. Public humiliation of anyone caught doing something like this and stiff jail sentences irrespective of race. Parents should also be held accountable for the actions of their children. If I had ever participated in something like this as a young man, the police would have been the least of my problems... My father would have beat me to death.
I don’t know if he said anything racist to the kids. But in my opinion if you’re a racist you deserve what you receive for your beliefs. I wouldn’t go as far as saying someone who cuts you off should be beaten. That’s just plain silly.
Someone cutting me off puts my safety at risk. Someone calling me a "dumb honky cracker" annoys me but the best response is to ignore and pity the ignorant person calling me that.
LOL its worse to be considered racist than to beat people half way to death in this country. What a twisted world we live in. Racism has gotten worse since Obama got elected in my area...it's a shame, I figured people would learn to work together after that. Same ol' same ol'.
We are. The (liberal) ones that aren't waking up can enrich their lives with tolerance & diversity at their own risk. I live in Philly, but I live in the suburbs to escape the warzone that plagues a lot of areas in the city. It's a shame, Philly used to be a great city. As did Detroit. As did Mephis. As did Los Angeles. As did Chicago. Etc., etc., etc.
No! My response was regarding “If someone was racist to you do they deserve server retaliation”. And my answer is yes. I wasn’t justifying these teenagers beating this man. It was in response to a question asked not to the situation being discussed.
Statistically speaking most thugs end up in jail, shot, dead, by the time they are 45, probably younger than that. My only advice to them is, don't bend over for soap when you are in the slammer.
It IS significant that they attacked a wounded vet. The guy was in his 60's with one eye, having lost the other one in Vietnam, for pete's sake. It IS significant. This was not a rival gang member or someone remotely able to defend himself. It shows just how ruthless these attackers were.
Why?
If someone who wasn't a vet lost an eye, and was attacked, would the crime not be as heinous?
And if he's living on the streets, isn't this the society we created?

1. It'd still be pretty damned despicable considering the injuries sustained. 6-on-1 odds when the victim is comparatively defenseless? The guy is lucky those kids didn't kill him (accidentally or purposely). Random act of violence. The fact that he's a 64-year-old veteran is a fairly extraneous detail.
