Pandora? I agree but the real problem is actual food costs "real" money! Oh and junk food isn't cheap either! Go buy a bag of potato chips! Does Idaho no longer exist?

Personally I am in favor of eliminating food stamps all together and going back to distributing commodities.,

Who has time to check the purchases of other shoppers, let alone how they pay their bill? I am far too busy looking at the magazines, and talking to the kid in the cart ahead of me.

I do not have a problem with a parent putting a bag of chips in a lunch bag. With everything else going on in the world this is petty and small.

Is this a good thing, or is it a violation of freedom and choice? Keep in mind: It's the government that will decide what is 'junk' and what is not.
That last sentence is why I voted no.

I generally hate government becoming a parent. In many ways I blame that for the poor choices we have seen since the 60's when people eat healthier but cheaper types of food. Just as you can't mandate exercise such nanny state doesn't work. If you cannot get people to obey drug laws now are you going to this. Government would have to issue them rationed food. They would do just what they did with food stamps; where they buy drug with them.

I agree. But unless the commodities they distribute are Encore, frozen pizzas, and Hot Pockets, they will need to teach the recipients how to cook. Give them a bag of rice, a sack of potatoes, or a box of oatmeal, and do you really think they'll know how to prepare it?

The government has categorized "catsup" as a vegtable for school lunches.

You have freedom and choice when you buy your own food.

You've got to be kidding me! A tablespoon of ketchup has loads of sugar and sodium! It doesn't altogether surprise me though.

I'm surprised. Lobster is a go but pretzels are a no-go? I do not support the government telling people what they can eat.

Do the schools that provide free breakfast and free other meals have to conform to Mrs Obama's dictates on "healthy food" that no one likes?
