Republicans must be dismayed by this good news. They wanted Obama to fail.

For the Presidential race, they've put all their chips on the economy. If it continues to improve, how in the world will a Republican candidate ever win in November?

After months of subpar growth in their payrolls, American companies added 243,000 new jobs in January, considerably more than the 150,000 that forecasters expected. That drove the unemployment rate down from 8.5 percent in December to 8.3 percent, extending a rapid decline from 9.1 percent last August.

I'm thrilled by this good news because now there is no reason whatsoever to keep giving unemployment handouts and it's time they end the food stamp program and have these people work for a living.

It's very great news because it means the government spending on welfare can be greatly slashed.

It will be a great idea to cut welfare straight after the tax loopholes for the wealthy are all abolished... healthcare is a UHC not a insurance company driven system.... education improves for the poorer areas.... The housing crisis is no longer a problem.... After these important changes then welfare can be cut.

Isn't it crazy how they immediately attack the poor while propping up the rich..It's just amazing.

Yes.......short term, this country WILL recover and Mr Obama will get back into office...EASILY.

The long term picture.........structural problems of this country will fester and get worse......National debt will be 20-22 TRILLION by the end of 2016.

Nothing has improved significantly if at all. It's smoke and mirrors. They simply count less of the unemployed population as unemployed now.

If Europe's financial situation continues to worsen things could get far worse.

This isn't about Obama either, many thought the Great Depression was over, over a decade before it truly was.

FYI - the CBO has predicted that unemployment will be back up to 8.9% by the end of this year and over 9% in 2013.

CBO projects $1.08 trillion deficit, 8.9 percent jobless rate in 2012 - The Hill's On The Money

Actually, while a large part of the recent decrease in the unemployment rate has been because of discouraged workers dropping out of the labor force, there were more than enough new jobs created in January (at least after the numbers were seasonally adjusted) to account for population growth and then some.

However, for many months where the unemployment rate decreased, that was not the case. If the new jobs numbers don't match what they should to account for population growth (which is about 200,000 per month), then a decrease in the unemployment rate would typically be because of people dropping out of the labor force.
