I looked at this list and sighed...no engineer or doctor or lawyer on this list.
The only one needing college is a registered nurse.

I didn't have to because I don't buy into "fastest growing this or that". You can surely do better by including a perspective on why (and how) you would expect engineer and doctor and lawyer to be fastest growing professions.

It's not surprising as with the boomers aging, it's going to take a huge demand for care, also retail sales to sell all that cheap crap from China.

The link also states the US manufacturing is continuing to plunge with "good" jobs being sent overseas (thanks GOP) and an influx of low paying and minimum wage jobs taking their place. Unless there is some kind of major change, the middle class is doomed.

The argument that we "shipped our jobs overseas" is an oversimplification; For openers, not all "production jobs" including the better-paying ones, are easy -- it's often dirty, stinky, unpleasant, or downright dangerous work, often outside the Mon-Fri 9-to-5 time frame or in less-sanitary neighborhoods -- not geared to an increasingly-feminized labor force.

Then there's the point that a number of rapidly growing foreign economies can now keep more of their sons and daughters at home, I have Asian-immigrant friends in Canada, and one of their greatest frustrations is that their overseas credentials are worthless over here.

And finally, there's the point that the jobs cited in the original post are the "jobs nobody wants". Labor-market specialists have known, and pointed out for years that if Dumb-Billy-Bob doesn't want to sweep and mop, he can usually come up with any number of tricks and excuses to get out of it, or at least delay the Reckoning until the Unemployment benefits are completely exhausted.

This is a situation that's only going to get worse as the global playing field levels out, and I can assure you that most politicians have no greater will power to deal with it than the aforementioned Dumb-Billy-Bob.

so the only high paying job is becoming an RN?

I don't buy into it....I'm changing careers and I'm going into healthcare and I assure you it's not being an RN-right now people need a skill-no skill no job..it's that simple.

??? Could you clarify your position. I don't think anyone said only RN's earn high pay in healthcare. What they said was that there are more jobs for RN's than, say... Nurse Practitioners or Physicians Assistants or X-Ray Technicians. Still, as far as I know, only the Army is hiring RN's in numbers sufficient to affect the national unemployement rate. The Army is also the only entity paying RN's a salary that someone might consider "high".

Baby boomers are getting old, and will need a lot of care.

Nursing and home health will explode over the next decade. Sure fire money maker.

They already have "elderly care" businesses popping up all over Florida, because we have a high amount of retirees.

Yup mostly all connected with the growing elderly of the country. Home health/personal aides don't pay well for some, retail closer the same. Go for RN of a good paying office job if need be over the others.

#1, 3, and 4 are logical. As America's largest cohorts get older they will need the service of these category of workers.
