King: Demographics trending against GOP agenda - Houston Chronicle

Indeed, it seems that the party is shooting itself in the foot these days, with its social platform, given the increasing percentage of the population that is minority.

As long as their current platform seems to work to win elections, Republicans will keep on campaigning as they are. At the red state level, such as in Oklahoma, it's been working pretty damned good, overall. However, if they lose the presidency again at the national level in 2012, the Republicans are going to have to conclude it's time to reevalulate, if their bigoted tactics are worth going on with.

You're assuming that everyone in the party is rational. They're not. There are plenty of uneducated, unintelligent social conservatives who are exerting an undue level of control over the candidates. They'll keep doing that even if the party keeps losing. It will serve to only make them even more emotional and they end up on places like this whining about everything with no idea of what they're talking about.

Republicans have been losing by putting out supposed compromisers (moderate John McCain types) who end up always compromising to the left. Notice they almost never compromise to the right.

Obama is such a radical socialist/communist type of politician that he gave the Congress to Republicans and he is so hated as a politician that he may have no Senate, more Republicans in Congress and no job for himself.

Long term, the Republican party can not exist as a non-opposition Democrat-lite party and the rising of people from the grass roots lately have been by the Republican voters, Independents and conservative Democrats who the politicians never listen to.

Now we are at near our worst hour. We have a radical President, we have way too many people employed by government, we have government union elites throwing hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars at Democrats to bribe their existence as is, and you have way out of control social programs.

No matter what we do, we will all be going the way of Canada and Greece in firing lots of public sector employees, their pensions and cutting serviced down to mostly the elderly and disabled.
There isn't enough other people's money in the world to sustain a heaven on earth wish list of social programs and government employment.

They have already done that. The question is, will they be able to come back? We need a 2nd Party, it is dangerous to only have one.

Yes, once you get a majority belonging to one party and that one party keeps staying in power, you have basically just created a dictatorship for yourself.

The problem with the Republican Party is that it is basically the Democratic liberal Party, with the addition of the lunatic fringe Religious Right who think contraception creates people who "run around having sex with as many people as they can fit in a day, then do it all again the next day!" (from Rush Limbaugh on Thursday). These Republicans think it's fine for the working class taxpayer to pay for endless children in the lowest ghetto classes, but resent preventing ONE pregnancy not producing another ghetto dweller for the welfare roles and Criminal Justice System.

The Republicans are a misnomer today. They should be called Libertarians--but BOTH Washington Parties have managed to slander the ideals of our Founding Fathers to the point where uneducated Americans think Libertarians are "radical" and "marginal."

Thomas Jefferson wasn't marginal OR radical. If we had stuck with HIS ideas, we wouldn't be in the end days of our once-greatest nation.

Better that than ending up on Wall Street empowering the 99% by committing assault and vandalism the way your extreme leftists do.

As a good example to prove my above point, people like this guy are driving the candidate selection and platform in the party. This radicalizes the party and while it appeals to the base of the part, it alienates independents.

I have extreme leftists? Can they go wash my Mercedes for me so I don't have to do it today? Oh wait, are you making the assumption that I'm somehow a leftist? Sorry, I'm an actual intelligent conservative. Probably the only one on the forum.

Incidentally, if you can't defend what I said, pointing out the bad that someone else does just makes you look silly.
