He's got dirty harry reid stopping anything, bipartisan or otherwise, from hitting the senate floor. The plan is to make a lot of noise about bipartisan this and that, then have reid who isn't up for election, sit on it and then blame congress. It will be played out like this all summer.
Actually the only bipartisan thing we see is going to war to ensure that oil id traded in dollars. They all know if that doesn't continue the entire house of cards collapses.
The President started his first term inviting a bi-partisan working relationship. The Democratic-controlled Congress, though, wasn't as willing as he was. And after the GOP took control of the House, it was pretty clearn they were refusing to cooperate with the President and they would do what they could to de-rail the operation of government for the remainder of his first-term. The sword cuts both ways - particularly in Congress. But if the President is thought to be listening only to himself it's because the "other side" has and continues to walk away from the table of honest discourse and negotiation.
Have you considered the possibility that maybe--just maybe--the Republicans might have their own legislative agenda and that, like the president, they have a constituency that wants that agenda enacted? If it is incumbent upon the Republicans to display bipartisanship towards Obama's agenda, isn't that obligation reciprocal? The Dems act as if the Republicans' agenda is illegitimate. Why is it any more illegitimate than their agenda?
Maybe, if he really wishes to have a bi-partisan discussion, he should at least listen to someone other than himself. Even he should realize that he does not have all the answers.
In all fairness, I am not saying that the republicans do, any more than the democrats.
By actually listening, perhaps some middle ground could be found and progress toward an actual solution could be found.
Of course, this is not going to happen with this president.
He's done that in a lot of instances. For example, while healthcare reform might be his namesake, he didn't write the bull. Just pushed others to do so. Republicans were included in that, but weren't really that interested in participating. Unfortunately, the radical element of the Republican party doesn't want anyone to work in a bi-partisan manner. They're exerting an undue influence on the candidates in the party.
One only has to look back at the past to see that two opposing political view will not meet but in rare cases where both benefits. II expect republicnas to return the "elections have consequences " comment more fully i the future. They will pass bils as the heathcare was passed ;immedicvateyl chnages to policy by prwsidental decree because in politcs 'what goes around;comes around like no9hting else." Obama has opened the door really wide on passing bill by the nuclear option and changes by presidental order.
