SACRAMENTO - Showing just how out of touch they really are with mainstream California families, Sacramento Democrats today blocked a resolution authored by Assembly Republicans to recognize the Boy Scouts of America on the organization's 100th Anniversary.
In blocking what they called a "controversial resolution," Democrats attacked the Boy Scouts as "an organization that has long discriminated against individuals." Yet throughout its history, notable Boy Scouts have included four Presidents of the United States as members, five other Presidents as scout masters or in leadership roles, and 212 current members of Congress - Democrats and Republicans alike.
The left didn't even bring this up in the first place!!
The Girl Scouts, at least when and where I grew up, were always a second class organization to the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts had a wonderful new building built as their HQ, they had camps and went camping, they always seemed to have the "money". But my poor little brownie troop got hand-me-down stuff, we never went anywhere, never did anything except sling those cookies!!
My mother, who was a Reagan Republican and very right wing, always commented how the Girl Scouts were treated so inferior to the boy scouts, it actually made her angry. Which was funny because she was not the type of woman to say things like that so lightly.
Yeah. The Girl Scouts in my area passed around cooking ideas and sewed a lot. So boring. The boy scouts were actually camping and telling ghost stories and whittling and making neat knots. They just seemed more interesting, but girls could not join, so I did neither.

^^It depends a lot on the leaders. My older daughter's troop did lots of camping (which she hated, BTW), auto mechanics badges, finance, fashion (DD loved that and led a "field trip" to a local store), went on a trip to DC over spring break one year (from Colorado), etc. The camps, including day camps, were fun, too. By late high school, they didn't really do much with the cookie sales.
The younger DD was never in as good a troop. She did more wit church youth group.
