"A Continental Airlines passenger was tackled by fellow fliers and later detained after he caused a disturbance on a flight from Portland to Houston on Tuesday. The man reportedly tried to light an electronic cigarette and began screaming “Allah is great!”

I like some of the comments at the end of the story; especially the guy who remarks, "I thought our 900 bases in 130 countries kept this kind of thing from happening." (Not to mention the TSA) Oh well, the airlines deemed this incident not a security concern.

Would this even be a story if he had did the same thing but screamed "JESUS IS THE LORD!"?

This situation is whay I think every passenger should have acess to a single shot pistol loaded with bird shot. It could be carried in the pouch in front of every seat and the passengers would be instructed in the guns proper use along with the seat belt show. This would discourage on board bombers, hijackers and idiots.

No, not until Christians develop a decades long history of hijacking planes and blowing them up or flying them into buildings after such a shouting scenario as you offered in your post.

It was just Barack flying "coach" as a campaign stunt.

I'm impressed at how pro-active passengers have become since 9/11. The few times I fly, I think I'd be proactive, not because I'm such muscle or anything, but because my usual job is charge RN on psychiatric units, and it's my reflex to fix trouble (I also know how to restrain, and know that the FA's have plastic cuffs).
I agree that someone screaming Christian nonsense doesn't show a history of flying into buildings, however, they are still off their rockers to behave that way in an airplane and need to be contained.

This new reality has done more to keep us safe in the air than anything the TSA can come up with.

Exactly, TSA gives people a false sense of security. I say get rid of the TSA and force the passengers to keep an eye on their fellow passengers.

Throw in parents of crying babies, really fat people who encroach on my seat/arm rest, smelly feet guy and the snorer and you got yourself a supporter.
