I always wonder whether people consider Black Americans to be a part of the West since they are more or less Western when it comes to language and culture. Obviously, Black Americans still retain a significant part of African culture but they have absorbed so much Western culture that much of their outlook and culture are Western. The reason why I am asking this is because they aren't of White Western European descent and I am wondering whether this precludes them from being considered Western. So are Black Americans Westerners?
The parts of "traditional African culture" that (SOME) African Americans retain are not the parts that count in determining whether someone is "Westernized" or not.
"Western" doesn't mean white European, though Europe is where the notion of "Western ideals" arose.
Have you ever been to Africa? It's a big place, so which African culture does a guy born in Tulsa claim, Nigerian, Moroccan, Libyan, Ethiopian, Egyptian, or maybe the culture of the Congo tribe?
According to the white supremacists that hang out on the lunatic fringe threads (birthers, blacks-are-no-damn-good, etc.) black folk aren't even entitled to claim American culture or citizenship.
Of course, they are "Westerners." I have two physicians: one Indian and one Chinese--both I would consider "Westerners." I have another that I would not consider one because he has remained entrenched in is Eastern culture.

So many of them have been descended from people who came here in the late 17th century and the early 18th century and that makes them longer residents of the US than many of the whites who immigrated from Europe in the late 19th and early20th centuies. Skin color isn't the way to measure what they are since they were mostly descended from those early immigrants (slaves).
I consider every one of them who is not a recent immigrant from Africa to be westernized completely.

Very sad, racist statements.
Maybe you should rethink some of what you said here.
