(RNN) - An extra $1 billion a year could go stay the pockets of women after the Affordable Care Act goes into full effect in 2014, according to a report from the National Women's Law Center.
According to the report, little has changed since 2008 when the non-profit group began tracking gender-based differences in healthcare prices: Women pay significantly more for health insurance in every state that hasn't outlawed the practice - without the added benefit of maternity coverage.
From 10 to 85 percent more: the cost of "gender rating"
The practice of setting prices differently depending on gender is known as "gender rating."
"In the capital cities of states that permit gender rating, 92 percent of best-selling plans charge 40-year-old women more than 40-year-old men for identical coverage," the report said.
Republican female comments please. Will it bother you to keep paying more if Affordable Care is overturned?

No. People should pay according to the likelihood of how many services/how much they can realistically be expected to take out of the system. Makes sense.

So, you are saying that women now pay $1 billion more and under Obama care they will NOT be paying that $1 billion.
Question for you, who IS going to pay that $1 billion? Someone has too.

The same "crackers" who are complaining about health care reform are probably persons who will benefit greatly by it's implementation. They're not bright enough to understand it.

Just for argument's sake:
The question is: are women unfairly paying higher health premiums? Or are their premiums legitimately higher because they are female and require more healthcare (remember, the amounts stated in the OP exclude maternity care).
If they are targeted for higher rates solely because they are female with no statistical evidence that they require more care and truly aren't burdening the system, then this is a just change and the insurance companies will be having less frosting on their cake.
If women truly have higher costs, such as smokers and the obese, yet get their premiums reduced solely based on everyone paying one price, then the $1 Billion will come from someone's pocket.
There Are Now More Unmarried Women in the United States Than Married Women
Recently, the number of unmarried in the United States surpassed the number of married women for the first time. What is behind the trend and what does it mean? This change reflects two converging tends in American society. Not only are women living longer than men, creating more widows, women are getting married at a later age.
